~ A Long Overdue Gift For My Loving Mother ~

original painting, original artwork, oil painting, travel artist

A couple of years ago I offered to spice up my mothers old salt and pepper shaker set as a Christmas gift.  Well, I am ashamed to say, I only got as far as sanding off the old images (cartoon/graphic cats) and gessoing the area to be painted.  Since then time has flown by and it seemed that I never really had a chance to work on them.  This was always in the back of my mind as I love my mother more than words can describe and she truly deserves one hundred painted salt and pepper shaker sets.

Finally, after finding out that she would be visiting me at the end of July, I put the project on top of my priority list.  After for long days of painting HERE THEY ARE!

I am so proud of these little paintings and I really believe they turned out so beautifully.  I decided to choose Stonehenge as the theme for the shakers because I know it is a site that always fascinated my mother.  I used my very own photos from my visit to Stonehenge.  The experience, which took place during my huge 2010 Europe trip, was one I will never forget.  Needless to say, it was lovely to paint these images of Stonehenge and be able to mentally travel back to the amazing site once again.

I will be releasing all four Stonehenge images as beautiful 8"x10" prints and will also be releasing two pendant necklaces of the main images on the shaker stand/napkin holder.  Stay tuned for details :).

Here are my progress pictures as well as images of the completed pieces!  I hope you enjoy them!

All set up with my cozy cotton candle and beginning my acrylic under painting.

These are my sketches done on the gessoed areas of the shaker stand/napkin holder.

Completed the acrylic under paintings.  These will shine through the thin top oil paint layers.

And here is the finished product!  As I said, stay tuned for another blog post on these lovely paintings.  It will contain crisp images that truly show how gorgeous these little paintings turned out.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

  1. ok I will have to bring a really big bag to her place (something to hide them in when I abscond with them)- those are absolutely simply beautiful. Stonehenge has always had a special place in my soul. Keep up the great work. :)
