!!! Going To The Greek Islands !!!

Darren and I are very excited about our trip to the Greek Islands!  We leave this Saturday September 1st 2012 and will be gone for 8 days.  This trip has been in the works for quite some time but with the date fast approaching it seems like it is now finally official!  You'll have to excuse the lack of online communication for the next week and a half as I will be enjoying the experience of a lifetime.

As the Greek Islands are quite the popular tourist location I thought it might be fun to share with you a simple version of our itinerary.  Here is what our 8 day adventure will look like ......

DAY 1:

The first day is usually the second worst day of the trip (after the last day) because we will be taking a total of three flights to get to our final destination.  A total of  15.5 hours of travel and layover.  BUT at least we will be incredibly excited and have the rest of our trip to look forward to!

DAY 2:

On the second day we will arrive in Chania, Crete.

The city of Chania is gorgeous all on its own but we also plan to visit the nearby ancient site of Aptera.

After a long day of travel and exploring we are staying in our much anticipated traditional hotel!

DAY 3:

On the third day we will be travelling to Heraklion by bus.

As you can see Heraklion is absolutely breathtaking!  We cannot wait to explore the capital of Crete and visit the nearby ancient site of Knossos Palace.

DAY 4:

On the fourth day of our trip we say "goodbye" to the island of Crete and travel by speed ferry to the island of Santorini!  Though I am incredibly excited to see every single thing we've planned for, I am over the moon excited for Santorini!  The reason for this is because I have painted a large painting of Oia, Santorini entitled "Saint Irene's Atlantis" and cannot wait to fully connect with the location.

While in Santorini we are stationing ourselves at a gorgeous hotel in the capital city of Fira.

We will also be going on a journey to experience the amazing Ancient Akrotiri which many believe to be the lost city of Atlantis.

DAY 5:

The fifth day of our adventure involves us taking another journey out of Fira to Ancient Thera.

After this we will be travelling to Oia to have dinner and watch the most beautiful sunset in the world.  This, as mentioned before, will be the most exciting moment for me.

And here, just in case you were curious, is my painting of this beautiful Greek city!

DAY 6:

On the sixth day we take another speed ferry to the island of Mykonos!  Here we are hoping to experience, not only culture and history, but a bit of nightlife as well. Mykonos is famous for it's clubs and nights to remember.

In Mykonos we have a luxurious hotel waiting for us.  We usually travel modestly and prefer to experience more traditional hotels, but for our last Greek Island experience we felt a little pampering was in order.

From our hotel all of the sites can be seen and easily walked to. We plan on seeing the famous windmills, Little Venice, and the Church of Panagia Paraportiani.

DAY 7:

On the last day of our trip we will be taking a boat ride to the nearby island of Delos.  Delos is one of the most important mythological, historical, and archaeological sites in Greece.  It is currently uninhabited but at one point was the New York city of the Greek Islands.  Actually, Mykonos only become populated due to its proximity to Delos.  I cannot wait!

DAY 8:

With all of the excitement and adventure behind us the eighth day of our trip will be a tedious one.  Before reaching our home destination we will have to endure 18 hours of flights and layovers.  But, it will have all been worth it!

I am an avid world traveller and love to incorporate my travel experiences into my art!  If you have any commission requests that involve travel please do not hesitate to contact me at Info@MalindaPrudhomme.com.

My New Art Business Card Design

art business card, business card, mixed media art business card

art business card, business card, mixed media art business card

As an obsessive compulsive perfectionist I have always had a hard time designing a business card for my mixed media art career.  I settled on a design when I began my career in 2010 but never really liked it.  The only reason I had them printed was because I was pressed for time as I was leaving for a two month long trip through Europe.  Now that my practice has grown, and with two upcoming shows, I felt it was necessary to give my business card design another go.  Here you can see my newest design which I am actually quite proud of. The top image represents the front of the card and the second image would be the back.  Let me know what you think! :)

The Sunnyside Beach Juried Art Show & Sale

Sunnyside Beach Juried Art Show & Sale

          Saturday September 22, 2012 - 11:00am to 6:00pm
          Sunday September 23, 2012 - 11:00am to 6:00pm
(Sunnyside Pavilion, 1755 Lake Shore Blvd. W., Toronto, Ontario M6S 5A3)

I am over the moon excited about having been accepted into the Sunnyside Beach Juried Art Show & Sale!  I applied mid-July and was informed that if I was to be accepted I would be told late in July.  After hearing nothing about my application I figured I had not been accepted.  THEN this past weekend I received an AMAZING e-mail stating that I had DEFINITELY been accepted but there was a mix up resulting in me not receiving my acceptance letter.  Though I've missed out on a bit of preparation time I am SOOOOO thrilled!

Outdoor art shows tend to be very costly and are a lot of work to prepare for, however, I am hoping that this will be my opportunity to showcase my talent to art fans.  I am hoping to gain awareness of my artistic career and, of course, hoping to make some profits.

At this show I will be selling ...

1) Original Artwork (old and new pieces)
2) Commission Requests
6) Note Cards (NEW)
7) Post Cards (NEW)
8) Bookmarks (NEW)

Your HELP is needed! In order to make this event profitable I need to spread the word.  Please help me by sharing this blog post (or the coupons) with as many people as you possibly can!

Thank you all for your continued support!

(Right Piece)

Presenting my newest series "Summer In Rome"!  This beautiful two piece series is inspired by fashion advertisements I fell in love with while travelling in Rome.  I was completely blown away by this lovely use of traditional art in modern day advertising.  I feel as though this could only be possible in Italy; one of my favourite countries in the world.

Both of these paintings are done using an underpainting of watercolour and a final layer of thin oil paint.  Both canvas' measure 12" x 16".  Also, 8" x 10" prints are now available through my etsy shop and cost $20.00 CAD/each.  For the red left piece click HERE.  For the yellow right piece click HERE.

I hope that, as I do, you will find both of these images to be alluring, light, and absolutely gorgeous!

Please continue scrolling to view photos of the original Rome ads and more detailed images of the paintings.

Chainmaille Necklace II

Chainmaille necklace, chuncky necklace, thick necklace, statement necklace, chain encklace, braided necklace

$45.00 CAD

Another post so soon!?  Here is the second addition to my new "Chainmaille" series.  This necklace, "Chainmaille Necklace II", is made up of 5 different chains that have been tiered to create a thick statement chainmaille necklace. Though the piece looks very heavy its weight is actually quite comfortable.  The shortest chain is 16" in length and the longest chain is 26” in length. The necklace fastens with a large vintage bronze lobster clasp to match the two thick vintage bronze chains in the chainmaille necklace.

I hope you enjoy the second piece in my "Chainmaille" series!

I am so excited to share with you the very first edition to my Chainmaille Necklace series.  This necklace, "Chainmaille Necklace I", is made up of 10 different chains that have been expertly braided to form one thick chainmaille statement necklace. The two gold chains within the braid give the necklace an elegant pop of colour that allows the weave to be seen easily. Though the piece looks very heavy its weight is actually quite comfortable.  The necklace is 25” in length and fastens with a large gold lobster clasp to match the luxurious gold chain in the chainmaille braid.

This project was initially the brain child of my talented younger sister Meagan Prud'homme.  While visiting home for my birthday she mentioned that I should attempt a line of statement necklaces since, as anyone who knows me well knows, I absolutely love interesting and often large necklaces.  When I travel I make absolute sure that I purchase a different necklace in every town I visit.  Well, seeing as the idea was Meagan's I asked her to come visit me for a couple of days so we could figure something out.  This beautiful feminine chainmaille necklace was the result.

Meagan and I grew up watching Gem, Shera, Sailor Moon, and Xena; and loved the idea of amazons and kick butt women in general.  Being in karate for many years ourselves, it is no wonder we grew up to believe strongly in "Girl Power".  This necklace is a complete reflection of that.  While being beautiful and luxurious, the necklace also personifies a certain toughness.

I hope you all enjoy it! :)
