---> STAGE 2: 1/3 Face Drawings <---

It has been a very long time since my last update on my "Beauty Series" and I am so excited to share with you what I have completed thus far. I completed Stage 2 on 12 out of the 36 pieces of my series. For Stage 2 I used a 2H pencil, an HB pencil, and a 3B pencil to draw on the faces. I chose pencil as my medium for this stage because it gives the faces a faded, almost ghostly look. This will help me portray that true female beauty is found in ones personality and character not external beauty. However, the portrait is still the focal point of each piece as the image was chosen by each individual woman as the photo THEY feel they look beautiful in.

This series has been very enjoyable so far and, after a little break, I hope to put many more much needed hours into them and provide you with a new update soon. I hope you enjoy them! Thanks again for your support!

I'm very proud to present my newest series entitled "All That Girls Love". I found myself extremely inspired by my favourite curvy beauty, Christina Hendricks, and sought to find an interesting way to incorporate her into a series. This series encompasses many stereotypical things that girls just love: makeup, accessories, creamy pearls, and glittering gems. Though I do not see myself as a "stereotypical girl" I still find ridiculous amounts of joy in traditional "girly" things ... there's no shame! It was a really fun series to create and I hope you like it. :)

Please continue down to see more detailed pictures as well as progress pictures.

At the beginning of this school term I made an attempt to alter my teaching schedule which, in the end, really paid off! I was allowed the alteration and was given Tuesdays off. I decided very quickly that the precious days would have to be dedicated to creating art. This series is my response to the sing song feeling of having art in my life again. It is entitled "As It Comes ..." because I created the series purely on insticts. It has been done in the form I hope to continue using now that I have finished my studies; Mixed Media. This particular collection is an extreme mixed media series containing Soft Pastels, Oil Pastels, Conte, Watercolour Pastels, Micro Pigment, Black Generic Pen (for multifacets), Pen & Ink, Graphit Pencil, Gaugin Pencils from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Gold Graphite Pencil from the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, a Van Gogh Multicoloured Pencil from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, a Multicoloured Pencil from Michelangelo's Library in Florence, Watercolour Paint, Liquid Gold Leaf, Oil Paint, and Home Made Encaustic (Wax) Paint.

Please contact me if you are interested! :)
I appreciate your support!

January 07-09 2011
Acrylic, Paper, Gloss medium, and Lacquer on Canvas
16" x 20"
SOLD

I was spending the night alone one Friday night when I decided it had been too long since I just let my creative juices do as they please. I pulled out the acrylic paint and squirted globs all over the canvas. I took a big brush and blended them together. Then I realized it looked something like a kindergaten painting which sparked my interest in education. I decided book pages would look nice. Having found the best pages I could possibly have asked for I pasted the pages from the American Spelling Book onto the canvas. I looked at it once and decided it was too bright and happy. It did not reflect the way I was feeling. I then put a thick coat of gloss medium mixed with acrylic paint onto the enitre piece. I felt this dimmed the messages in the pages so I pasted new pages onto the piece. I then deicded the piece needed an antique look so I threw a black wash in areas. Then to top off the entire piece I splashed white gold lacquer on the canvas. After creating this spontanerous piece I realized it represented my angst towards not being able to serve my lifes purpose, TEACH. This fact is constantly on my mind and I guess it just needed to come out.

Please let me know what you think of this spur of the moment piece!

---> STAGE 1: Watercolour Under Painting <---

I've had a lot of inquiries about the progress of my beauty series so I thought I would give you beautiful girls an update after every stage. As many of you already know, this series is all about inner beauty versus exterior beauty. The more I think about this concept the more complex it gets. I began thinking about how we "make" ourselves beautiful. Most of us, if not all of us, have a regimented routine that we use to "beautify" ourselves. We brush our teeth, shower, do our hair, and then our makeup, etc, etc. I'm sure we all have different stages and do them in different orders but for the most part women have a "beautifying" routine that mimics the assembly lines of a factory. In order to mock this stage like process I thought I would use the same process to create this 36 piece series. The very first stage of this process was to paint all 36 watercolour under paintings based on the colours you felt best represented your personality or inner beauty. So here they are! I hope you all enjoy them! If you have the time please leave me a comment at the bottom of this post as I would LOVE to hear from all of you!

Thanks again to all of you beautiful women for your kindness and support!
