A couple of weeks ago I was asked to take part in a project being put on by Plan Canada as part of the "Because I Am A Girl" initiative. If you're not aware, "Because I Am A Girl" is a global project to end gender inequality, promote girls' rights, and lift millions of girls - and everyone around them - out of poverty. As the majority of my artwork focuses on female inner beauty and strength, you can imagine how excited I am to have been chosen for this project. :)
"Because I Am A Girl" will soon be launching a new book entitled "Everyday Is Malala Day". The book is inspired by Malala Yousafzai who is a young Pakistani girl that was shot in 2012 by the Taliban for openly fighting for girls rights to education. Thankfully she survived the terrible incident and has since been a symbol to girls all over the world who believe in the power of being educated.
To celebrate the book launch, as well as National Women's Day, Plan Canada has decided to hold an art exhibition, "The Malala Effect", that is inspired by the book and by Malala's strength. They have chosen a group of artists and have assigned each of us a page of the book to pull our inspiration and create an original artwork for the show. Once the show is complete each piece will be donated to a school in order to inspire students to engage in their education.
I will be excitedly creating this piece over the next few weeks and would love it if you joined me. Your encouragement and support, as well and your help in spreading the word, will make this project truly worth while. :)
See the piece come to life on ....
