It was so nice to get these fingers full of charcoal again! Dawn Munro, a fellow teacher I met while getting qualified to teach Visual Arts, contacted me a while back saying she wanted to support my art career by offering me a payed project of my choice. Wow, this was the first time someone gave me full range to create something custom for them. After a bit of discussion, and based on an artwork Dawn had mentioned, "Trinkets From A Culture Unknown", I decided to create her a luscious charcoal still life of items she collected during her travels.
I hoped to showcase each object with a unique shadow in order to express how each trip, location, moment, memory has a unique affect on who we are. I personally find that I learn something new about the world and about myself every time I travel. I hope this resonates in the piece. It was really a pleasure to create and I hope it brings added joy to Dawn's home. :)
