COMMISSION

This custom mixed media eye painting was commissioned by Patricia Kerr.  She wanted me to portray her friend Molly's beautiful blue eyes.  The variety of colour in Molly's skin tone is absolutely stunning; not too mention her striking light blue "ice" eyes add a pop of bright colour.  It was such a pleasure to create and I hope the piece adds beauty to the home it will be hanging in.

COMMISSION

I was thrilled when my friend and fellow artisan Nici Shipway asked me to create a custom eye painting of her daughter Amelie's stunning blue eyes featuring a light dusting of her beautiful freckles. She plans on giving the painting to Amelie as a gift on Valentines Day. Nici explained to me that her family always celebrates Valentines Day since Amelie had heart surgery on this day. I think that is such an amazing thing to celebrate and I am really touched that she felt my artwork would be a lovely gift on such an important day. 

During the painting process I really became inspired by the contrast of Amelie's earthy skin tones and bright water blue eyes. It is because of this that I decided to title the piece "Eyes Of Earth and Water".  I hope the piece brings happiness to Nici, Amelie, and the whole family. :)

During my short time back in my hometown, when I went to help my father set up his social media sites, I was able to spare a bit of time to visit my cousin Christiane and her family.  Christiane and I have been close my entire life.  She was four years old when I was born and she just fell in love with me.  She would drag me around everywhere and we've been best cousins ever since.  Nowadays, with me living in Toronto, we barely get to see each other.  It was so nice to see her, her husband Calvin, and OF COURSE my two nephews Simon and Jeremy! The cost of travel is too high so this was my first time meeting Jeremy; what a treat! They are such a beautiful family. :) 

You can imagine how excited I was when Christiane and Calvin commissioned me to paint a portrait of my nephew Simon! He is such an adorable "little man"; as I like to call him. So smart and mature. Absolutely adorable. I believe originally Christiane hoped to have a series painted of all her children to be put up in the bedroom and I think that is such a lovely idea. I hope they love their portrait!

Wow, am I ever excited to announce that I will be exhibiting two of my artworks in Exhibit Here's exhibition in the UK!!!  Though the shipping has come at quite a cost it is well worth it to exhibit my work in a new country. I've looked at the other pieces that will be in the show and they are incredible! Check them out HERE. After doing a survey over Facebook and Twitter I decided to hold a contest where my fans could win an original artwork. Truth be told I had a canvas board I was dying to cover up and create something incredible with. So when there was an interest for original work I jumped at the opportunity. The pop art movement has always been one of my favourite era's to study and continues to inspire me.  This series was created using acrylic paint in a bright colour and contrasting black giving it a "pop" style.  To further the concept of "pop" art I chose to depict the popular vintage beauties Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page, and Audrey Hepburn. I felt the blue background mirrored Marilyn's sultry beauty, the red background corresponds with Bettie's wild and sexy character, while the yellow background emphasizes Audrey's sweet and soft nature. I hope these artworks exude beauty and fun.
