I am so pleased with the results of my beautiful "Baby Zoey" portrait! I used textured acrylic paint in the background to add some interest and spent many days layering oil paint in order to bring her features to life as well as her striped shirt, bow headband, and soft baby hair. This commission was the first by Toronto Realtor Angela Montgomery and I hope to do many more for her and her clients. These truly are gifts that will be cherished forever. :)
A couple of weeks ago I was approached on Twitter and asked to donate something to the Seva Food Bank. Seva provides culturally appropriate food to families in Mississauga who are in need. It was certainly something I wanted to support but didn't have any Sikh inspired artwork available which is what they were requesting. With some big commissions booked, and the Seva Spark event taking place on May 10th 2015, I really didn't have the time to create another piece but I felt I might be able to squeeze in something in Mixed Media. I set out to create the stunning Sikh Bride above using watercolour paint, chalk pastel, pencil, pencil crayon, acrylic paint, gold micca, and real acrylic gems on watercolour paper. Those who follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram were able to see the piece come together bit by bit. Their encouragement was so great and very much appreciated. Since people were enjoying the piece I thought it would be fun to make a "Making Of" video!
Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the Seva Spark Gala but from what I see in pictures it looks like it was an amazing evening! As I mentioned in my PREVIOUS blog post, I wasn't able to fly to London, England to attend the Private Viewing of Exhibit Here's "Rare Art" Exhibition BUT thankfully I exhibited alongside some amazing artists who took the time to photograph my work and share all of their pictures with me. From what I can tell it was an evening unlike any other! I so wish I had been there! A big thank you to all the artists who thought to upload some pictures for me (and the other international artists who couldn't make it). It was very exciting seeing the posts going up on Facebook! It was almost like I was there. I will definitely be saving my pennies so that I can attend the next Exhibit Here show I'm in. How amazing would that be!? I would LOVE to see all of the UK friends/fans I've made over the years. :D
I am so pleased with the results of my custom pet portrait "Lola"! I hope you're impressed too! Lola's Mom, Jan, contacted me last year in order to book her portrait of her furry baby into my schedule. Knowing I was preparing for my first solo exhibition, Jan realized I wouldn't get to her painting for many months but remained patient and supportive. When it came time to bring Lola's image to life on canvas I knew I had to pay extra attention to detail in order to make her fur vivid. Layer after layer and the desired results were achieved! Yet the part I love most about this portrait is the life in her eyes. I'm quite fond of those sweet dark eyes. Jan has received her portrait via Purolator and is thrilled with the painting! I am beyond thrilled and grateful to have had the opportunity to exhibit my portraiture in London, England from April 14th to 18th 2015! Not only is the international achievement wonderful but the Menier Gallery in which the show took place is absolutely stunning in its historical state. Not to mention it's around the corner from the Tate Modern and the famous Shard! And if all of that wasn't enough, the caliber of artwork I had the honour of hanging alongside with was absolutely amazing! I am so thankful to all the incredibly kind artists who attended the Private Viewing and took pictures of my work with me in mind. Without the proper funds or time I wasn't able to make it to London for the show. Yet even though I wasn't there I felt I made some new friends. The whole experience is one I will not forget!
